REFUGE DSG

This small group is a welcoming, Scripture-centered community for all students who: are navigating same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria; identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, etc., or are otherwise seeking to integrate Christian faith with sexual and/or gender identity under the Lordship of Christ. Our meetings will focus on worship through hospitality, Scriptural engagement, prayer, lament, and community.

This group is sponsored by the Wheaton College Chaplain’s Office and supported by Refuge, a student-run campus organization.

Refuge DSG is facilitated by Eric Larson, Wheaton’s Ministry Associate for Discipleship.

If you have further questions, please email eric.larson.01@wheaton.edu for more information or see the form below.

  • This group is exclusively reserved for sexual and gender minority students: those who are personally navigating same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria; who identify as LGBTQ+; or are otherwise seeking to integrate sexual and/or gender identity under the Lordship of Christ.

If you are not personally navigating these questions but are interested to learn how to love and support sexual and gender minorities, please email Eric Larson to hear other opportunities.

  • The Refuge DSG exists to provide a safe space for sexual and gender minorities to foster Christian community and intimacy with Christ. Spiritual formation is at the heart of this group. Our weekly times consist of prayer for one another, confession, fun community building, and time in God’s Word.

  • We meet weekly for 90 minutes and occasionally for other fun gatherings.

  • Email Eric Larson (eric.larson.01@wheaton.edu), the Ministry Associate for Discipleship, to set up an initial meeting. The group welcomes new members throughout the year, unless it reaches a max capacity. Eric can discuss any questions or concerns you may have in your first meeting.

  • Although both groups are designed to foster community belonging and faith amongst LGBT+ students, the aims of the two groups are distinct. Refuge as a student group is primarily designed for community building, peer solidarity, and resource sharing with other students. The Refuge DSG has a more specific discipleship focus, which is why it is facilitated by the Ministry Associate for Faith and Sexuality in the Chaplain’s Office.

  • We recognize that students navigating these experiences and questions have varying needs regarding privacy and confidentiality. The Chaplain’s Office staff and the Refuge DSG are confidential resources. This means that no information disclosed in group will ever be shared outside of the group (unless someone discloses a threat of harm to oneself or others). We meet in an undisclosed location to respect members’ privacy.

  • Refuge DSG is housed under the DM umbrella, but it functions with distinct parameters and organizational structure. This is due to the confidentiality of the group.
